Challenge Records gave Enrico the possibility to break away from the intimacy of the trio, and suggested a quintet recording of his music. The delicacy of the compositions has been maintained and expanded. That Enrico Pieranunzi Quintet gives us his beautiful compositions in a broad-sounding setting; breathtaking improvisations. Music of today, music of tomorrow.

Since several years Enrico Pieranunzi performs with his European trio in which bassist Hein Van de Geyn and drummer Hans van Oosterhout play an important role. Hein seems to be the perfect counterpart for Enrico: a warm sound, subtle, adventurous, full of passionate melody. Hans paints a rhythmic picture. Always alert, always taking the musical decision, full of life.

On trumpet and flugelhorn Bert Joris was invited. Bert, one of the most lyrical and flexible trumpet players on the scene today; well known for his long association with Philip Catherine and renowed composer / arranger himself. On tenor saxophone we have Stefano D’Anna. A marvelous instrumentalist from Palermo. Stefano has been considered to become one of the leading horn players in Italy. His playing shows much maturity. The sound of these two horns will definitely give an extra dimension to the music of Enrico Pieranunzi. Enrico Pieranunzidecided to have this quintet be a flexible unit for five performances. The trio will remain but we might find Toon Roos on saxophones. Toon, a highly respected figure in the Dutch Jazz scene, award winning before he turned twenty, has been considered one of the important new saxophonists in Europe. Fabrizio Rosso from Rome is a fast rising star on the Italian scene. Marvellous imstrumentalist, mature improviser.
